Robert started learning music in the New Apostolic Church. He attended the Beau Soleil Music Centre for his practical music tuition. He has been a member of the Cape Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble and Orchestra and South African National Youth Wind Ensemble and Orchestra.
He has obtained a Performance Diploma in Flute Performance and Post Graduate Diploma in Flute Performance from the University of Cape Town. In the second year of Postgraduate studies he studied with Prof. Hansgeorg Schmeiser on exchange t the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Robert has attended master-classes in Austria and Switzerland. He received a prize at the Sir James Galway Flute Festival.
He has also played ad-hoc for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.
