Nomapostile Nyiki is a singer, dancer and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for reviving and promoting indigenous African music and culture. She feels strongly that music is a powerful tool for uplifting communities, building intercultural bridges, and fostering a sense of self-worth among young South Africans especially. As such she has a particular interest in education, and facilitates workshops in and around Cape Town, with a focus on training school choirs to a high standard in terms of the authentic representation of traditional performance practices.
As a member of the award-winning duo Ancient Voices (with Lungiswa Plaatjies) she performs widely both internationally and locally and enjoys collaborating with a diverse selection of artists. She holds a Performer’s Diploma in African Music from UCT, and continues to work closely with her mentor Dizu Plaatjies to spread awareness and appreciation of South African cultural heritage. At Ifidyoli, she trains our young musicians to particate in all aspects of this musical inheritance, including singing, movement and dance, storytelling and the playing of indigenous instruments.
