On the 28th of September, the Music Centre held its annual Matric Performer’s Competition. This year we had Corvin Matei adjudicating the competition. Corvin is the professor of flute and conducting at the University of Stellenbosch and is a respected conductor both locally and internationally. He was also head of the woodwind department at Beau Soleil for a few years, and we were privileged to have his expert adjudication and useful comments.
The performer’s selected were Timothy Truran on violin (Teacher: Kathleen Garrity), Art Wynberg on clarinet (Teacher: Becky Steltzner), Chad Wesso on trumpet (Teacher: Merlin McDonald) and Olivia Stanton on percussion (Teacher: David West). A very high level of performance was produced by all the chosen candidates in this competition. Timothy Truran was selected as the overall winner. Congratulations to Timothy and the other performers for their achievement in being selected to represent their instrument groups.
